Sorry about the website…

I am very sorry that the website has been unaccessible for nearly a week, the server that the site was on decided to delete all the files so I have had to start over. Luckily there was a back-up of all the posts that had been made, so all is not lost!

Please bear with us whilst we get everything up and running on the site again.

Thank You

Tom

February Update

Dear Parents/Carers

Well, we hope you all had a very happy Christmas, enjoyable holidays and wish you a belated Happy New Year.  Now at the end of January it feels a long time ago!  We have some important notices to give you and news on the rebuilding of the headquarters.

A huge thank you to everyone who both donated items and jars for the Christmas Town Day in December, and who manned the stall, as always it was freezing!  We raised over £200 by selling jars of sweets, having a Tombola and a Raffle with the grand prize of the gingerbread house, courtesy of Christine’s sister.  This was won by one of our cubs – Ben Leppard –lucky you!

The Group AGM will be held on Friday 8th May 2009 at 8pm – the venue will be decided later, but we are hoping to hold it in the Headquarters.  Please put this date in your diaries, as you can imagine it is a very important meeting this year with all that has happened.

Rebuilding the Headquarters – as some of you may have seen, the front of the Headquarters has been rebuilt using metal cladding – it looks brilliant, and many thanks to those who helped put it up.  The electrical work has been started; hopefully this will be finished in a couple of week’s time.  We then have to wait for EDF to join us up to the mains  (this won’t be until late March).  Thanks to Geoff Blake and helpers for giving up their time and for all their work. The plumbing will be done after the electrics are finished, and the replastering should be done in the next month or so.  After that, we will be calling ‘ALL HANDS ON DECK’ to everyone to help us with the clearing up and repainting.  We are really hoping to be back in the Headquarters by the start of the summer term, so keep your fingers crossed that all goes according to plan!

We have had some extremely kind donations, to mention a few:  £180 from Noel Singers, £500 from 8th Burgess Hill Scouts, and a substantial sum from the Masons.  We are very, very grateful to everyone for their support.

Lastly, but certainly not least, please can we remind parents/carers that children are NOT to be dropped off and left on their own on a Friday evening.  Please could you wait with them until the appropriate section leader is on site.  We cannot be held responsible for them outside of their meeting times.  This is not just for their safety, but also in case for some unforeseen reason, the meeting is cancelled at the last minute.  Beavers and Cubs are reminded that they must remain in the hall until a responsible adult comes in to collect them – they are not allowed outside until then.  We appreciate your cooperation with this.

Thank you for your continued support.

November Update

Dear Parents/Carers

It’s time for another update on our group – and I am sure you will be pleased to hear that work was started on the Headquarters’ repairs last weekend and already a great deal has been achieved – very encouraging for us all.  Work will be undertaken this coming weekend, with most of the major structural repairs hopefully being finished.  There will of course then be the electrics to replace, and the internal ceilings, and walls to repair, re-plaster, paint and generally make good.   With this good news in mind, the next fund raising events are coming up in December.

The first one is: TOWN DAY – SATURDAY 6TH DECEMBER  FROM 9AM We usually take a stall on Christmas Town Day, and this year we will be doing so again.  We are going to keep things really simple and stick to a Sweet Tombola, an ordinary Tombola, and maybe a Raffle.  Sooooo – as always we are asking for your help – please could you bring in jam-jars filled with sweets and goodies, and any bits suitable for a Raffle/Tombola.  These can be bought in on any Friday until 5th December and given to your group leader.  We will also need help on the day, and I will be putting up the rota nearer the time.

The second event is for the Lions – CHRISTMAS FOOD APPEAL - We will again be supporting Burgess Hill District Lions with their annual Christmas Food Appeal - they are asking for donations of dried or tinned food and goodies suitable for christmas. These items will be distributed amongst the local elderly and needy. This is an extremely good cause. Donations can be brought in on any Friday before 12th December when the food will be handed over to the Lions Club.

Please check out our website for uptodate information on our Group – www.5thburgesshillscouts.org.uk

Once again a huge thank you for your support of 5th Burgess Hill Scout Group from all the Leaders and Committee.
